New And Improved!

We've made some major changes and updates to the website over the past several weeks, including the addition of a timeline and a large selection of Guantanamo documents that have been carefully selected and annotated. Please look at the LEARN section to see all of the changes. We've also updated and annotated the LINKS page. In the INTERVIEWS portion of the site, many of our video interviews and portions of our DVD are now available online as well, though we will be updating and improving this portion of the site over the next few weeks.

Project Interviews Baher Amzy

The Guantanamobile Project interviewed Baher Amzy, American lawyer for the German-Born Turkish detainee Murat Kurnaz, shortly after his return from a visit to Kurnaz in Guantanamo. Kurnaz, who has been at Guantanamo since early 2002, became the focus of a fair amount of media attention
after Federal District Court Judge Hens Green noted a discrepancy between the material in the unclassified portion of his Combatant Status Revew proceedings and the classified portion; namely, that the unclassified version referred to incriminating evidence against Kurnaz that didn't seem to exist. The CSRT transcript also alleged the Kurnaz had connections to a "suicide bomber" who turned out to be a friend of Kurnaz's who had been cleared of all connections to terrorism. Amzy, a law professor at Seton Hall Law School, became one of the first lawyers to visit a detainee after joining Kurnaz's legal team last October: he and German civil rights lawyer Bernhard Docke have worked to free Kurnaz and return him to his home town of Bremen, Germany.
